What I actually do

I work on WordPress when the site has to stay maintainable after launch: custom plugins, block themes, WooCommerce flows, performance fixes, schema, migrations, technical audits, and long-running support. I do not treat WordPress as a page-builder exercise. The useful work is usually in the boundaries: what stays custom, what stays a plugin, what is safe for editors, and what has to be documented before handoff.

Where this differs from a generic WordPress service

The offer is not a bundle of pages. It is senior engineering around an existing or planned WordPress system. That means staging, version control, deployment notes, plugin risk review, editor permissions, rollback paths, and clear ownership of custom code. When a client cannot publish the project name, the proof layer focuses on method: anonymised case studies, checklists, architecture notes, and repeatable audit steps.

Typical work

Custom blocks and block themes, WooCommerce checkout and catalogue work, plugin audits, Core Web Vitals fixes, security hardening, schema and sitemap work, multilingual setups, data cleanup, editor workflow, and maintenance retainers. If the project should become headless, I scope that separately rather than forcing every WordPress build into Astro or Next.js.

Frequently asked questions

When should a business hire a senior WordPress developer?

When the site affects revenue, operations, compliance, editorial work, or customer trust. A senior developer is useful when plugin choices, custom code, performance, security, and ownership have to be decided together.

Do you build with Gutenberg or page builders?

Gutenberg and custom blocks are the default for maintainable builds. I can audit Elementor, Divi, and WPBakery sites, but I avoid adding more page-builder debt unless the business case is clear.

Can you maintain an existing WordPress site?

Yes, if the scope is clear. Maintenance means updates, backups, monitoring, incident response boundaries, plugin risk review, and small improvements. It does not mean unlimited development hidden inside a retainer.

Do you work with WooCommerce?

Yes. WooCommerce work is scoped around checkout, HPOS, product data, payment integrations, fulfilment, performance, and agent-assisted commerce. Large stores may need a separate WooCommerce pillar engagement.

How do you use AI in WordPress projects?

Carefully. AI is useful for editorial assistance, search, support, and internal tools, but credentials, permissions, logging, data retention, and human approval have to be explicit before anything touches production.
